I Made This Crypto Mistake Twice. Don’t Repeat It With Stocks.
Apple, Nvidia, and Microsoft could soon trade 24/7. Here’s how to position yourself without losing sleep.
Soon, you may be able to trade Nvidia at 3 a.m. on a Sunday.
I have a good idea what a lot of people will do with that.
Because I did it. Twice.
In June 2019, I watched my crypto portfolio climb from about $40,000 to $80,000 in a couple of weeks.
For someone with more than $100,000 in student debt, that felt life-changing.
Then I watched it fall right back to $40,000.
I was so wound up during those two weeks, I couldn’t sleep.
One night around 2 a.m., I went for a three-mile run just to burn off enough energy to lie down. The next day, I could barely keep my eyes open at work.
I wish I could say I learned my lesson then. But I didn’t. When the next shiny thing came along in 2021, I couldn’t resist.
I had a lot more at stake then. At the peak, I had about $1.3 million in crypto. I was managing it at all hours.
Most nights, I’d toss and turn in bed. Then I’d see some new token starting to heat up on Twitter. It didn’t matter what time it was. I’d get up and head to the couch to trade. More than a few mornings, I woke up still on it.
I made thousands of trades. Doing my taxes afterward was a nightmare.
Worse, I’d sell positions I’d researched and believed in to buy whatever some stranger was hyping that night.
Overall, I made money. But I was miserable making it.
All that trading was wearing on my relationship, too. I was distracted and constantly checking prices. I’d skip plans with my girlfriend so I could do more “research.” And when we did spend time together, all I talked about was my latest win or loss.
She wasn’t sure how much longer she could put up with me being glued to my phone. (Thankfully, she gave me another chance. Today, she’s my wife.)
Then her mother said something I’ve never forgotten: “There’s no point in being the richest man in the cemetery.”
That one hit home.
I learned a simple rule from my mistakes, one that I still follow today. I want to share it with you so you can use it too.
Why? Because tokenized stocks could soon bring that same around-the-clock temptation to Apple, Nvidia, and Microsoft. And a lot of people could find themselves where I was a few years ago.
Handle it wrong, and you could end up with sleepless nights. Handle it right, and you can position yourself to benefit from markets that never close… without sacrificing your quality of life.
