AI and the Socialist Daydreams
One promises prosperity. The other guarantees dependence.
In February 2024, the Seattle Democratic Socialists of America laid out their utopian vision for the country in a blog called “Socialist Daydreams.”
In the blog, they asked readers to imagine the year 2032:
The recently elected President along with most of the House and Senate are members of the Democratic-Socialist Party. There is no bipartisan barrier to doing what needs to be done.
At No. 2 on their list of “what needs to be done” was universal basic income (UBI).
Back in 2024, these daydreams felt more like pipedreams. But after Wednesday night’s election results… That vision is coming closer to reality.
Zohran Mamdani, a self-described Democratic Socialist, won the New York City mayoral race on an unapologetically expansive public-spending agenda.
He campaigned for rent freezes… fare-free buses… universal childcare… and even city-owned grocery stores – all financed by higher taxes on corporations and top earners.
As mayor, Mamdani will oversee a metropolis of 8.5 million people with a bureaucracy and GDP larger than those of some small countries.
His term will be an intriguing experiment… one the entire country – and maybe even the entire world – will be watching closely.
Now, I’m not here to get political. At Digital Asset Daily, it doesn’t matter whether you lean left, right, or somewhere in between.
Our mission is simple: to help you build wealth so you can live the life you want to live – not the life you’re forced to live.
Of course, we don’t want to see anyone go hungry or homeless – and we understand how hard it is out there right now for the average American.
But we can’t ignore what’s happening in the country, either.
We’re entering a new era – one where millions of Americans are becoming permanently dependent on the government for food, housing, and soon, even income.
If you don’t want to rely on those handouts, then today’s essay is one you need to read closely.
